The sky park and gardens located on the 6th level of the Upper West Side residential development comprises of various discrete and open areas totalling one acre for 4000+ residents of the complex.
This garden is in effect a giant pot for plants. It required specific internal structural details in conjunction with a specialised potting media to sustain the trees biological health and structural stability for the 50 year garden life expectancy.
The horticultural infrastructure; garden beds, media and selection of suitable advanced trees and shrubs, were specified by NJR & Associates then grown to the specific specifications by Rivetts Nursery for the project.

Roots are the brains of the plant, telling the crown how fast and long to grow. But to achieve this the tree requires a naturally fault free root system.
To achieve this natural root system we utilise an air root pruning pot filled with tailored media into which individual seeds are planted at appropriate depths. After germination a seedling in each pot is selected and other germinates cut off.
In many species when the first true leaves appear (approx 30mm high) a root will have exited the bottom of the pot at 200mm below the media surface. This insures a deep naturally lateralised root system.
